Progress Report:
Jess and I finished most, if not all, of our shooting a couple of weeks ago. Jess did the editing to the footage, that we shot during that time, around a week ago. We are waiting for feedback about our teaser from our professor and also people that have viewed our teaser on Facebook.com. The next thing that we plan on doing is coming up with a design for our DVD package. We have a number of photos/pictures that we are thinking about using for the front of the DVD we just are not sure which one it will be. We also need to set up a time with the actor, that I cast as Todd, to come and shoot the poster shot for us. After we do the DVD packaging and Poster, if we have time, we will do character blogs involving Grayson and I...Grayson being the guy that got the part and me being the guy that did not get the part. We are on a roll and both Jess and I feel really good about what the outcome will be on our project by semester's end.

The Teaser is COMPLETED! Well...almost.
Jess and I have the teaser up and running on facebook. If you go to her blog you will find the link to it. We would love to hear feedback from anybody that sees the footage. We are both very excited about the outcome of the trailer...eventhough the camera was not the greatest in the world. The camera angles and props we all combined our forces to come up with, what we think, is a great trailer. The big painting of the beach, right behind Todd's head at the beginning, was my idea. The camera angle of Todd in the bathroom was all Jess. The way you see all the reflections in that scene was really cool. Some of the people that have already seen the trailer says that it's just like a trailer for a real film. I have to say, Jess and I were very glad to here that kind of praise. Alot of the credit goes to Jess for getting our "baby" ready for viewing eyes. It's hard to believe that I just a couple of months ago this was only a possiblility for a project. And now we have a teaser!!

CSI Notes
-lots of cuts to different locations at the beginning
-a number of slow motion shots
-everytime another person started talking they would show a medium shot or close up of the person talking
-before the actual credits to open the show, it gets dramatic with the actor being named the head suspect in the murder
-there are alot of closeup shots and not alot long shots, except to establish the location
-sex brings ratings...not only is there a sexual act at the beginning of the show...strippers...but also the lead woman investigator is dressed provacativly for an investigator
-lots of flashbacks when describing what happened or what might have happened
-another commercial right after we find out that the other lady in the room is alive
-when all the investigators are sitting at their table...the camera uses a moving shot of the two lead investigators when they are talking to single them out as the two most important investigators
-right before the supposed next commercial, we find out their is another suspect in the murder
-next commercial didn't come when we found out that one of the victims was a man...instead it came after we see what appears to be a woman playing golf...i'm confused
-when the investigator is on the stand...the camera was blurry on the edges to show that the investigator was nervous or something...also sound of heartbeat to show nervousness
-the show followed the outline that a 1 hour tv show follows...the M curve that we talked about in class
what is the message? no body is above the law, even if you are an actor

Sunday Photo

I took this picture outside of FATZ Cafe where I work. The title of this photo is "Escaping Isolation." I like the way I was able to get the shot with diagonal lines. The main point of focus for the picture is the van. I took a picture as the van was leaving the parking lot. I probably should have waited till it was closer up. However, I was kind of in a hurry because I had to get back to work. The title would also make alot more sense if I snaped the picture when the van was closer up. I hate the shadow on the bottom right. Unfortunately, the shadow stands out to much and it really has no purpose. I like the contrast between the blue sky, green trees and the cement because it gives the picture depth. The reason I called the photo "Escaping Isolation" is because the van is escaping the boredom that is the very lonely parking lot.

Possible props and such...
Here is a pictures of the breakroom that we might use. I like this as a possibility because the crampness of the room works well with the character and also the colors of the cabinets are kind of drab. There is alot we can work with in this area as well. The only real drawback that I see is that it will be hard to shoot because it is so small.

Jess and I thought it would be nice to have some paintings in Todd's bedroom. I thought these were really cool for him to possibly have because they are not over the top...crazy paintings...there almost calming and I think that works well if his layout in his bedroom. The first one in the colage of these is my favorite because it's so soothing. I found all of these pictures at the Brooks Center. Hopefully we'll be able to use some of them if we decide too put them in our teaser.

We are hopeing to find a nice black brief case for Todd. However, if worse comes to worse we can use this one that I found in the prop room at the Brooks. It's all scratched up and besides that it's also brown...oh well.

Here is a table that I found at the Brooks. I really like this table because it's just a plain old wooden table. I don't want a round table because Todd is not that kind of person. He is more rigid therefore, I want a square table. This table is not round but we can shoot it to make it appear to be round. Only problem is...it has no legs!!!! Yet.

After meeting with my leading man
Our meeting went very well. It was informal but we talked about some good things. I was even able to get feedback on some of the ideas and he thinks it will be a lot of fun. I can't wait to see the character I came up with come to life...it's going to be pretty exciting. Here are some of things we talked about:
Will you be willing to cut your hair? Answer is no because he can not alter his hair because he is doing a show. However, I'm pretty sure we can come up with something. He had some really good ideas and I trust that my actor will make the right creative move.
Mannerisms? He will come up with some during the weekend. He came up with an interesting finding. The character maybe something like Jim from The Office, which could be funny but we'll have to see.
Possible clothing that you can use for the project: He has some suits that we could possibly use. He has a number of ties that are pink, red and blue. I think pink maybe to much but a red tie is really great. But again...we'll see.
Shooting schedule: He is going to email to me the time he is available for shooting. However, I have to come up with what props we are going to use and things of that nature.
So to sum it all up: Meeting with my actor on details for the project is complete!!! Bye Bye one milestone and hello another.

Meeting with my actor
I am going to meet with my actor Grayson Powell today in Java City at 2:30. Here are some of the questions I am going to ask him:
At what times of the week can you be available to shoot?
Will you be willing to cut your hair for the part?
Do you have any clothes that you could provide for the trailer?
Have you thought of any mannerisms that would make Todd different from you?
After I asked him these questions I will probably show him some of the shooting locations that we have decided on.

Cartoons
Political or editorial cartoons-come along in the 1700's, satire that uses humor to make a serious point...why?draw attention to political issue without making someone offended
Crash!!!

I have seen the movie Crash at least 3 times and it's wonderful. After seeing the movie the first time the title sequence makes a lot of sense. The names of the actors, when they come up on the screen, overlap each other sometimes. This goes along with the whole idea of a lot of these characters coming together at some point in the movie. The names look like shiny glass when they come up on the screen, which goes along with the idea of crashing into each other when the plots overlap in the movie. Graham: "It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something."

I'll be there for you!!!!

The title for Friends says alot about the show. There is a colored dot in between each letter in the title...there are 6 dots and there are 6 friends. Its almost as if the dots connect the letters together...similar to the group of friends because they are all connected in some way. The font is very care free almost...its not formal, which shows that the audience is in for a comedy.

Elements of Graphic Design
Contrast-refers to difference in color, size and symbolism so they complement each other
Balance-placement of elements within the designs frame
rhythm- refers to way eye moves across the image
Unity-overall stylistic appearance of the image, movie...etc
think about these when doing our project!!!
Saul Bass says show everything at its basis element

Execution by lethal media
In a lot of movies, involving execution, African Americans are wrongly accused of death but whites are guilty. Is this to make up for lynching's in the south during the civil rights and before?
A simple question: Why is the public fascinated when they here about an execution taking place?

This font is all me!
I think the font that best describes me would be "Kristin ITC." The reason it best describes me is because, just like the font itself, I am not plain or boring but I'm also not crazy like wing dings. I like to get out of the lines every now and then but I don't make a big habit of it. However, I also feel that I am not intimidating and that I can be fun to be around...so, just like this font I am easy
going and I don't demand a lot of conformity.

I Propose to You..."The Perfect Man"
What: Jess and I are doing a teaser for my short story "The Perfect Man." After the teaser we plan on doing a website to promote the teaser.
Why: The anwer to that question is really simple...because I've always thought my short story would be a good idea for a film. More importantly we will bring up the questions...Why is that prop that color...Why is he wearing that...Why does he never talk...Why do you only see her eyes...questions like that. The answer to these questions is that they are styled that way for a reason.
How: Since this project is very demanding, Jess and I have decided to split the project up.
My side of the project breakdown:
· Teaser script
· Teaser mise en scene
o Costumes
o Props
o Blocking
o Casting
o Location
· Character blog design (2)
· Cast interviews design (3)
· Web layout
o Character blogs
o Cast interviewsProduction information
Grayson Powell plays Todd:
Grayson was the first and only person I thought could play this part. The character is in his mid to late 20's and Grayson can play age well. He is also going to do the voice of the movie preview guy...which is going to be hilarious.
Carrie Ann Collins plays Emma?
Carrie Ann is my acting professor. She has really gorgeous redish hair...which Emma has to have. And she can easily play young...what am I talking about she is young. The picture tells it all...she has the eyes that would look great for teaser. Tell me those seductive eyes wouldn't draw you into the trailer.

To much is put on appearance...Second Life included
My name is Stan Klossovsky which is kind of close to the famous director Konstantine Stanislavski. I chose an avatar that kind of looks like me. I wanted to look like Jack Sparrow...maybe later. I am letting my hair grow out in real life just to try something different...therefore i chose a longer hairstyle for my avatar. To me, there is just to much to do in appearance...which reminds me of the wrestling videogames. If you ask me to much of a good thing...might be bad. I'll try to get going in Second Life as quick as I can...however it is just very time consuming. The only thing I have done so far is create an avatar...if you look to the left of the blog you will see the snapshot i took of my character. In the words of Chandler Bing (best character ever!!!)..."I'm no woman but that is one tasty dish."

Class project: The Perfect Man is not quite Perfect yet...but getting there!
This project is going to be a lot of fun. When I found out that someone in the class wanted to do a film for the project, I told myself this is perfect. I did a short story in a fiction class around 3 or 4 semesters ago and I always thought it would be a good idea for a film. I already got a script for the teaser. Jessica and I have been throwing around other ideas for the project but I think it's going to be great. Maybe...website to promote the "movie" with fake casting interviews...posters for the movie...and designs for a mini DVD that you would show to company's to present projects that you have done in the past. The cast is only 2 people...so the teaser isn't that hard. We also will not have to worry about audio recording for the actors because there is no dialogue and that works well for a teaser. The guy I have in mind for Todd, whom is the main character, does the "preview guy" voice so it's perfect. Jessica and I will keep everyone posted on how the project is going along. Later!

What is Visual Communication
It is getting a message out to the public by showing an image that is emotional in some way and tries to have a positive effect on the intended audience.
